Internet taking root in India

Internet usage has been widening and deepening in India according to the India Online 2006 report. There has been a 22% increase in the number of Internet users in the past year. While the majority of users prefer English pages, 42% visit Indian language websites. The proportion of women net users has increased by 11%. There has also been a tremendous increase in broadband connections with over fifty percent of home users switching to broadband connections. The author suggests that the government must take advantage of this situation.
