Maharashtra launches first ever study on e-waste
September 2, 2006, One World South Asia
The Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board (MSCPCB) has launched a six-month study on e-waste generation and disposal in the largest manufacturing hub of the state, Mumbai. Mumbai and surrounding manufacturing areas generate the largest amounts of e-waste in India, mostly from IT parks and manufacturing industries. Amongst the wide range of durables that constitute e-waste, the study restricts itself to computers, refrigerators and phones and will provide detailed lifecycle analyses of these products. E-waste is recognized as a growing menace for the Indian environment, and the immediate aim of the Mumbai study will be planning and implementation of recycling processes and structures.
