Computerisation of land titles may soon be made mandatory

In India, it will soon be mandatory for states to computerise all land titles and get them audited in the interest of averting property disputes and making property transactions transparent. Non-conformity would mean the deferment of central funding to the state. State governments are supposed to create a database of land records and keep it updated. Land title certification will begin at the village level. Mandatory title insurance is also proposed as a cover against loss from defects in title, meant to protect parties' financial interests. This could help to prevent various family related disputes, litigations and unregistered properties, and also deter FDI in real estate.
