Telecom sector is fuelling OSS growth

This interview with Nandu Pradhan, President and Managing Director of Red Hat India, discusses the future of open source software and the company's new strategies for increasing its market share in enterprise servers to 50%. Pradhan envisions an open source future where users can work freely on any platform, and all platforms are interoperable and not locked to any particular file format. Red Hat India is indeed witnessing growth in the demand of open source software, as e-government and telecom, as well as e-court systems and the education sector, migrate from propriety softwards towards the adoption of open source. Pradhan does not foresee an end to proprietary software, but he believes that companies must deploy a mix of both proprietary and open source if they are to best serve their customers. Red Hat India is itself innovating to create open standard services over operating systems, which have traditionally been in the proprietary space.
